Families with children

Haapsalu is a wonderful place for family vacations. It is a safe town, and with its shallow beaches, warm sea water and lots of fun activities, it is well suited to the youngest members of the family. It was not awarded the title of ‘Child and Youth Friendly City’ by UNICEF without reason.

The major attraction for children is Ilon's Wonderland, a magical place inspired by the work of famous artist Ilon Wikland, whose illustrations for Astrid Lindgren’s children’s books are displayed on the walls to delight visitors of all ages. In the Wonderland children can draw, play games, attend handicraft workshops and more. With its child-centred world view, it is an exciting place for younger members of the family and will take parents back to their childhoods as well.

At the Episcopal Castle children can travel back in time to the medieval era – and with its mysterious vaulted cellars, alchemy lab and bell tower, the castle offers unforgettable adventures. There is also a unique playground in a moat.

Plenty of other playgrounds can be found around the town: on Africa Beach; in the courtyard of the Children’s Library; and even on the main street. On rainy days children will find a cosy spot and a warm welcome at the Children’s Library.
